ADVERTISEMENTS
Neither a travel guide nor a reference book, 'London
Cross' is, nevertheless, an intriguing mix of the two - this is an exciting
project in need of a sympathetic publisher. The basic concept is to describe
two walks across London, one along a route that sticks as closely as possible
(without trespassing) to a south-north line and one which does the same
along an east-west line. I completed the first of the two in 2004, and the
resulting narrative records a fascinating here-and-now slice of London.
It blends local history and stories with quirky facts on architecture, planning
and interesting information on companies, organisations, notices and advertisements.
