THE DIARIES OF PAUL K LYONS - 1996
I continued to trundle back and forth to Brussels; sales of ‘EC Inform-Energy’ and my EU energy policy books remained modest but healthy enough to keep me in business. By the autumn, I had employed a young journalist, Theo Leggett, to help me research and launch ‘EC Inform-Transport’. I spent a few days in Bratislava, thanks to an invitation from the European Commission’s Synergy Programme. In May, I contracted with Demon to provide me with an internet service for the first time - I wrote of the problems this entailed as a ‘nightmare’
In the first half of the year, I sold my house in Kilburn - goodbye 13 Aldershot Road - and, at last, we sold Barbara’s house in Brighton. Barbara moved in to Russet House while looking for somewhere of her own to buy nearby. Most of my spare time this year was devoted to decorating and furnishing the rooms, redesigning/replanting the garden, and exploring, often with Adam, the surrounding countryside - with amazement, we’d found a vast open expanse of beautiful heathland two minutes walk away at the end of our road! Otherwise, Adam and I spent a week touring around the Isle of Wight, and a few days on Dartmoor. (Diaries 54, 55)
